I just got a job offer to work in Logistics and Supply Chain Management and I am trying to figure out what this will involve. My background is owning small retail businesses; this new job is for a company that is a solution provider for retail, logistics, and supply chain management. Basically, I don't have experience in logistics & supply chain management, so any advice or resources for learning are welcome. Thank you

Its very important to know what is logistics and why it has implication to manage smooth supply. in simple way we can say logistics as the flow of product or services without any interruption. we need to focus it as like in a big company which supplying its products in the market. most of the company they are not self depend on the materials they use to produce the final products. that is why logistics or supply chain is very vital for any company who wants succeed in the market. there must be reliability of supply , on time supply and there must be computerized record of handling inventory. when there is computerized network is maintain that will give prompt information regarding about how is the inventory and how much extra need to be supply and when.
we can understand logistic by this way also
suppliers->raw materials ->company ->use some machinery
-> process the raw materials-> finished product

I have been in Logistics for 10 years in the bakery Industry. I coordinate with the purchasers on how when and price of raw goods. Then I coordinate with the warehouse manager on when it will come in where it should be stored and who will need it. It is up the warehouse manager to get the raw goods to the production staff. Then I manage the outbounds to make sure finished goods are delivered properly and on time to the appropriate customer. I agree with yamlal aryal that this must all be done electronically. Best if a ERP SaaS software is used. It is a thankless job and if you do it right no one even knows what you do but the pay is good and when you get in a groove it becomes easy as long as you can visualize all the steps that need to happen in order for finished goods to be produced and shipped out the door.
